May. 26th, 2018 08:23 pmAm reading more Harry Potter fanfic.
Harry and Draco after the war working stuff out is microcosm of the problems the wizarding world has, so, interesting to read.
But the amount of fic that simply isolates Harry among Slytherins is weird. Like, somehow, secretly, his lifelong friends and near family aren't good for him? Somehow, secretly, the people who tried to kill him would be better for him?
... I worry about humans sometimes.
Also you read some and think that admiration for magic has slid over into being basically on the purebloods side, just with slightly less Voldemort and fewer unforgiveables.
I mean magic can be beautiful, but rather the point of the books was, as I understand it, that said beauty and power and all that isn't the sole property of pureblood wizards.
Some of these fics dont seem to agree.
Also quite a lot of them are angry about how Harry was treated as a weapon and set up to die, which, fair enough, but, slight problem, having him move in with the people who at some point tried to kill him doesn't actually fix any of that.
Like, he could stand to be slightly more selfish, or he's going to run out of self, that seems fair.
But isolating him from his actual existing friends seems unlikely to be a component of learning that.
some fic writers have a very different idea of how humans work than I do.
I only ended up reading this fandom because I ran out of stuff from a few writers and lo, there is so much more stuff if you pick a popular pairing in a gigantic fandom,
and yet now I care.
