You know how high school was basically made of embarrassment, anxiety and stress?
... guess what I mostly feel watching this movie?

I am not the target audience here. Watching this movie while mostly empathising with Tony is just very stressful. This is a child! What is he doing out on a school night! Even before people are shooting at him this is not okay! And then they are shooting at him and it is very not okay. Except I know how this movie goes so obviously he is okay. But then there's the embarrassment, and it feels very different when a barely 15 year old is going through all the same oops splat plot points as the protagonists in the other movies do. I mean when arrogant hot mess adults go oops splat, that's a thing, sometimes we can laugh at that thing, they did that when they should have known a thing, but when a kid does the same because nobody is so much as picking up the phone most of the time? It is a very other! Someone should be looking out for him! His lessons should be relevant! What is the Training Wheels protocol and why does it only provide him with Training when he breaks it?

Stress! Very stress!

In universe I have to be annoyed with Tony, because recruiting Peter was Not Okay, and then being that hands off was also not entirely helpful, and yet Tony was clearly trying, he just... *sigh*

But, Peter has no quit in him, so it's not like not recruiting him would have worked better. I mean, without Tony's suit Peter would still have been at the party and then he'd have straight up died. So. That is a thing.

And that suit has so many fixes for all the things that messed with Tony, he has put an epic amount of thought into that suit, even while making it more like Peter's stuff and far from his own stuff.

I like that we see Peter inventing too, just... little more low tech.

I've watched the cartoons where he's still in school. He still seemed older than this. This was a real live human going splat a lot and I can see where he was having his hero moments but he should not have to and I just want to make sure he's okay.

I think I like the movies where he's older. Much older. He can be an actual adult, that... I look forward to that.

So.

What else...

I read that they basically used black kid Spider-man's supporting cast and swapped in white kid Spider-man? Which would be not cool? But he had a nice diverse movie this way.

Roles for women were... limited. Again.

*sigh*

It had many good points but I believed in teenage kid Spider-man enough that I don't actually find it fun to watch him fighting. He's tired and scared and very beat up and it should not be his turn yet.

... writing this down actually makes it sound like I'm more upset than I am. I am fine. The characters are fine. It's all fine.

I just do not find many minutes of this story actively fun to watch, even when Spider-man is being cool and doing amazing things, because kid.

I am going to watch Thor and watch actual millennials get beat up instead.
