Dress for the job you want
Oct. 26th, 2018 08:12 amToday I spent some time sorting pictures into folders, specifically picking out a backpack load of clothing for an Adventurer.
All the illustrations just make people that look like RPG illustrations.
But I started with a wax jacket with many pockets, more or less matching pocket trousers, and tall Doc Martens, all in red. That is a distinctive Look that also tells you they put a bit of money into their equipment to get something that lasts, they spend a lot of time out in the weather, and they need pockets.
Underneath that is chunky cable knit jumper, smoother thinner jumper, solid button up shirt, long sleeve cotton t shirt, short sleeve t shirt, a thinner stay cool button up for different weather, and sports bras or nearest local equivalent. Two of everything, except maybe the bulkiest jumper, in red and white with a little black. Should all fit in a backpack but it's probably a bag of holding anyway.
... the way equipment lists are exhaustive about weaponry but don't even require you to keep track of what you're wearing much less how much it weighs was just *bothering* me...
Adventurers can go light on the spare clothes because 0 level spells Mending and Prestidigitation can keep things repaired and cleaned pretty easy, if you have an arcane magic user around. Clerics don't seem to have those options, possibly because gods dont intervene over laundry, but that gives you an awkward idea of what the incense is for...
I am not under the impression that The Internet Needs To Know, just, I was bored and this is what happened.
Also I'm trying to get the hang of this spell slots and preparation stuff. Like, if you multiclass to get some cantrips, I think you end up needing an hour a day prep for each class, which seems ponderous. In GURPS you might need to learn some spells just as prerequisites for the one you actually want but once you know them you just cast them whenever, until you run out of energy. Recovery time rather than prep I guess. And rather fewer spells in a row unless some really spectacular choices get bought to power things.
I still prefer just buying the spells you want.
If I actually used magic there wouldn't be much offensive stuff in my studies to start with. Mending and cleaning and making food is so much more useful, and then healing would be spectacular.
The audio adventure I listened to yesterday had a bit with aplague and everyone going to the clerics for healing. As far as I can see a cleric can do a maximum of 5 remove disease and 5 heal a day, until mass heal with really high level, like you'd have to be 17th level and then heal 17 per casting. So if more than 27 people need a plague cured you'd need plural clerics even if of a level to do big miracles. So either you need like one cleric per 4 or 5 patients, or clerics aren't really a solution to a public health crisis.
But I'm not sure of my numbers. Too many pages.
Also I don't know from Feats at all, and they're probably relevant.
I shall go listen to another audio.
I can still see their flaws but I'm vaguely sad there were only three seasons.
sort of. partly because I want to see them continue to get better. and partly because it was season 3 before we discover the only main female character kisses women...
