The first thing I decided about this portal story
is that protagonist is going through to look for her grandma and great grandma.
So the first thing nice helpful people do is ask their names.
So I have spent long and unproductive hours on behindthename.com and wiki, looking up queen's names and the top 100 surnames, and much else besides
because now I have to make her entire family tree out to four generations
and unlike with guys
they all have different last names.


And I'm not even sure this story will go anywhere.

That's just what my terribly focused brain be like.

Does it have to be historically accurate? I mean, if there are portals, maybe there's enough feminism that surnames can be kept by women.

My plan is to start the protagonist in 'this' world and then their first clue to them doing things different on the other side can be the surprise that one family has so many names.



... then I just need a plot to go with that...
