Today mum and my brother visited and we ate foods and then watched Aquaman.

Aquaman is plenty good. Whoosh and boom... or sploosh and crunch. Visually very imaginative and impressive.

But I liked best that he won by talking. And his journey wasn't 'decide he is worthy' it was 'explain he needs it for everyone else'. And he decided he was wrong at the beginning, and learned to be more merciful, which honestly is not usually how these things go.

Mera had many impressive things to do and Arthur thinks he's a bruiser but can identify Roman art and everyone in it. I liked them both and I liked them together as a beginning.

And his parents live! ... I have watched enough superhero stuff I find this rare and precious. I like how they get their happily ever after while he gets a new job.

I did not like how they didn't talk to the Trench dudes and how people were more expendable the less human they looked, but that was part of the demonstration of problem, and by the end he was probably fixing that? Unless his power is domination over sea life, but it was conversation in the bits we're sure about. He talked to everyone and made better.

I also kind of liked Orm giving back everyone's trash. I mean, in that world they apparently don't know Atlantis is down there, but if you drop trash on someone's head it's pretty fair throwing it back. Not the way he did it though, he's just mean.

I like how they did the race thing, and that Arthur isn't a white dude any more.

Also the way he yells in maori sometimes or the ways he stands that I recognise from him doing the yell dance other times. Cultural. ... I know little of this culture but it's good to put water people in the story.

His ink is impressive.

I liked many parts of this film and the story and the spectacle supported each other and it did a grand job of making a whole alien world that's just under water.

Also it's one superhero movie with a good answer for why he just doesn't ask his superhero friends: they can't breathe down there. He has a whole world of his own. Pretty cool.

I am very impressed that they made me impressed and invested in an Aquaman movie when I've been reading comics and being a DC fan for so long and just, like, barely paid him any mind. That sounds mean but I mean, whatever wasn't working for me before, they've fixed it. Pretty cool.

So that was a pretty good day.
