The Last Jedi

beccaelizabethToday we watched The Last Jedi. I hadn't watched it yet and had heard Many opinions on it, and also knew what would happen, which I'm pretty glad of because then I could look forwards to the good bits.
There were good bits. It wasn't the movie I would have made but if I was editing it I'd keep many bits. I like Rose, saving what we love. I was mostly annoyed at Poe. Kylo Ren is a total creep. Telling Rey she's nothing except to him is just abuser stuff. Though I do hope her parents aren't anything special. All that stuff about Skywalker blood, always forgetting is blood of slaves and farmers too. Whole point is ordinary people.
I would like it better if even one other person from the First Order joined Finn and he was the spark, but I guess that's next movie. ... I mean it had better be.
Leia using the force was understated and good. I mean compared to breaking things and throwing rocks around un gravity, she just nudged in no gravity, is simples. Also I can watch the character today, for a while I would have been too sad of the actress.
There were lots of women in random places, yaays. And saving people and being heroes. Good stuff.
I liked the ending with the kid with the broom.
All in all it has some proper mythic stuff, good people, interesting bits.
I'll keep the bits I like.

Date: 2019-05-27 09:54 am (UTC)The interesting thing about Poe is that usually his tactics would be the winning strategy - as in, that's how film plots usually go. You have 'The Leadership' who 'Know Best', ignoring Our Heroes; so Our Heroes run off on a madcap adventure and save the day... Except it doesn't go like that, and they're just young and impulsive and won't listen to those who've been around a bit longer and have a better idea of how to run things. And yes, Poe was an idiot, but the fact that this was the story they told was fab and unexpected. And Poe learned and grew and will be a far better leader for it.
Ahem.
I loved TLJ, it hit me in all sorts of ways that Star Wars never has before. I went and read a ton of stuff afterwards and generally engaged with it loads and loads. <3 My tag is here if you are curious.
