Stargate SG1 in July 1997 reckoned their supercomputer could calculate two or three gate addresses a month.

How does a 2019 phone, tablet, or laptop compare to 1997 super computers?

I tried looking it up but hit my learning new words limit before I even tried any math.

I asked Mr Dr Science, not because he would know off-hand but because I knew he'd find the question interesting.

He used Deep Blue as the 1997 super computer benchmark.

Basically, a 2019 decent laptop is probably 10-100 times faster. A souped-up gaming system is 1000 times faster.

So if it took roughly 1 million seconds to calculate a gate address in 1997, a good gaming system in 2019 could do it in 1000 seconds = less than 17 minutes.

He then went on to say that to access all the power of a gaming computer (for anything other than video rendering) you'd have to do some specialized programming, but that is WELL within the usual level of Stargate handwaving.
