This one was lovely and spooky. Excellent imagery. Could have leaned more on the feels but it started with people having feelings and slid gradually into people having a proper horror story and then ended it the Doctor Who way, with basically winning.

... the same elements in a Torchwood story would have more feels but end very very poorly.

Much spoilers so :

It starts out with a couple who can't move on from grief going out to a caravan park to reconnect, so we get nice human bits where they're feeling lost and she's annoyed at him and so forth. But then the Doctor arrives, and the dead start rising. First just the dead sister, but then it gets Complicated. Because all this is a temporal phenomenon, and to avoid paradox, she's going to have to die on schedule, which means they're stuck in the caravan park, potentially forever...

... and then things really kick off.

So it starts with one caravan in the mist, and ends up with like all the dead of world war two trying to come back via this one hole in time, so the scale goes huge

and Constance dies in the middle! And then the stakes get bigger!

So I thought this one was really great because it starts small and builds, and it being a time travel story puts limits on it, and then there's the unanticipated but inevitable twist, and then the Big Finish.

Also part of the wanting more feels is like the characters would rather care more and spend more time on feelings and grief, but there's so many bad things happening, a war on at one end of the story, they just have to get on with things. So it's not that the story is badly written, it does a thing about delaying grief and not getting time to have feelings, which folds into the ghost story aspect rather well.

And it's ever so tense in the middle. You find out who is about to die and then listen and listen for how it will happen but you don't know when. And before it happens you already know what will happen next, because time travel, but you know what the cost is, and it is by no means obvious how the Doctor will fix it.

... I mean after all these years you can be pretty confident he will in fact fix it, so it's the good sort of tension, but, very tense!

I liked this story a lot. I might have liked saving it for Halloween because voices in the static and ghosts in the mist are very seasonal. Was a good one.
