Today I listened to the Excelis trilogy plus one, while playing Sims.
... possibly I should stop playing Sims while I listen, because I don't have much to say about it now.
They're very old for audios.
Tony Head does one of the voices. That bit was cool.
I like the ambition of telling a story across thousands of years of the same planet with three doctors and Benny and Iris.
I liked the middle story best but the third had some very gruesome horror bits to recommend it. Also a lot of standing around having conversations to find out what we pretty much knew. The second one developed into a murder mystery in a world where seances work, which was pretty cool.
I do not like Iris Wildthyme here. She's meant to be a joke, and the funny is she's ordinary, but in a weird way. Like she drives a bus which is an ordinary thing but not something people usually do alone. And she likes clothes but her handbag turns out to be the plot driver relic. I don't know how to say it but it didnt seem like the story was her friend. And of course she keeps mentioning adventures with the Doctor which we know she wasnt there for, so she's just... the story does not feel kind. And I like stories where people do admirable things and are interesting people and the story likes them. So the Iris bits were offputting.
The Benny story made me want to listen to more of her stories, so that was good. She clearly has a lot going on, and I want to know more about that and how that works out. Which is new for me, I keep forgetting that range exists. But her being an adventurer with a baby is suddenly interesting.
... I had a quick look on the wiki what happened with the baby and that... that does not sound kind at any stage. so. I am not interested again.
okay.
well, today's listening was an adequate way to pass the time, and had some good bits.
