Ever since I saw someone on tumblr point out that character creation and actual gameplay are like two different games
and some people like the character creation game better
my game book buying habits make much more sense.

I have so many GURPS books. So. Many. And yet, not an actual burning desire to use the system to play games. I just make up characters and read all the nifty settings and make characters for the settings. And had not been thinking of that as a game, but it is, lots of settings and twiddlers, much fun.

Pathfinder I have kind of wanted to play since I started liking the audios. I can't decide if I want to play the exact adventure paths they used bits of for the audios, or if I want other adventure paths in the same world. I like the setting. It has so much Stuff by now. Adventure and excitement packed into every corner. And the test of the starstone so my usually frustrated at god options yet playing a cleric self can just, er, aim for apotheosis, as you do.

And the character creation game is pretty fun too, even though I am not well acquainted with most of the corners yet and have no idea how useful which bits are in practice.

But. The idea of playing. With those rules.

well i did have that small could have been a nightmare about it
and dreamed the happy dream of bolt on accessability features.

There are cards and stuff to buy for DnD 5e, but I don't understand if the Pathfinder cards are their own thing or what. But I feel like cards make more sense than just. A book. So many numbers. A character sheet.

So now I'm wondering what I want out of the actual playing it part of a game
... cards, apparently, and things to hold to represent things I could do right now, and not just a flat list of being able to do everything, varying degrees of badly.

But it has been Many years since I actually played so
I don't know
really
I do not.

But I like the way the Adventure Paths look. Last time I played the GM was very dungeon crawl focused and I felt like having a backstory was kind of futile. I had goals and dreams and wanted to be part of a wider story. But I can't remember a plot from back then. Adventure Paths promise a plot that explores a whole corner of the world while making your characters powerful enough to have real influe ce in changing it.

Which sounds awesome.

But I would have to get good at the rule book stuff to play them as written.

That sounds less awesome.

I would also need to find other people that wanted to play, and I keep stalling on even trying that part. But if I can try new board game groups in two different towns and find tables in different games shops that in theory are for running rpgs, I should be able to find people.

... that is... so challenging.
... can my character be mute? I feel like I could cope with the whole thing better if I didn't have to words.
... obviously the point of a storytelling game is words. that's just. challenging.

So.
Anyway.

I have no idea which game I want to play because I've spent all this time on fun with character creation.

... levelling up persistently annoys me as a concept but so does accidental u playable builds so, swings and roundabouts...

Probably I'll just think this stuff some more and... read a rule book again.

But it's a nice dream.
