thunder stick
Dec. 11th, 2019 06:56 pmFollowing my earlier hypothetical about the Deck of Many Things
I rolled up the magic items my character drew
and immediately gave away.
Rolled double scarabs with my Mummy's Mask dice for the wondrous item, so their rogue/cleric party member gets a book of +1 to Wisdom, which is grand.
But then I rolled the weapons
and realised
the one pulling cards is currently a gnome
due to an earlier hypothetical involving the reincarnate spell
and the one getting shiny magic item gifts
is a half orc.
So he has a stash of very nice magic weapons
in size Small.
Also, since the weapons are generated to be useful to the one drawing cards, they can only be things wielded by a bard/druid. His barbarian with a greatsword can certainly use almost all of those, by category, but...
well, then I got the mental image of him even holding them.
This is going to be hilarious.
I didn't see a table to random roll weapon types, so I picked some.
The later three (yes taking 22 is ridiculous) were pretty easy, just straightforwards bonuses, so they're a +4 and two +3s and even after the -2 for size penalties might be worth having around. Maybe. So the rogue/cleric gets a whip and dagger and the bard/druid gets a club on the last draw. Simples.
But the first weapon
rolled as
Thundering, Shocking Burst, +5
... which is worth 128,000GP
and logically leaves them with serious concerns about a higher level party nicking their stuff
because that is serious business.
Obviously it sounds like Thor's Hammer, but sadly Hammer isn't one of the options
so it's a Club. Partly cause you can throw those, though letting go of something this valuable seems unwise.
A gnome sized club.
That brings the lightning and the deafening noise.
So there's this Gorumite tank of a half orc with a greatsword five feet long as his usual weapon
and
also
a Small club.
... I wanna draw it and sadly I don't draw.
But you know what would be even funnier?
If they were clubs in the circus arts sense too.
We know they're Masterwork, because magical.
I rolled that they're decorated in a way that gives you clues to the magic power, maybe an inscribed design.
And the druid already has at least one club, because I know me and my tendency to acquire an assortment of sticks for the use of.
So there's this gnome bard with juggling clubs
one of them a +3 weapon
trying to borrow back the thunder and lightning club
to juggle
because it looks hella cool.
... not sure I'd actually want to use it though, permanently deafening your enemies makes it more difficult to convert them, I imagine. And it's a bit bitey to call a taser.
... taser club... oh man, can electrical damage be nonlethal? because *taser club*
... *giggles*
