Strange Days 'commentary'

beccaelizabethThe 'commentary' on Strange Days isn't actually a DVD commentary. From the background noise I suspect it was some kind of lecture. The director is explaining how the film was made alright, which is the kind of stuff I wanted to know, but so far the entire commentary is about the opening sequence. Because those were way hard to do. They had to invent a new kind of camera, and that was the easy part! Its quite mind boggling to hear what went in to that one sequence. Brilliant.
But I'm having to stop for a while because obviously since they put it on the disc like a commentary track the film is going on in the background, and its like watching a film and listening to the radio. Two tracks of information that gradually get less and less to do with each other. plus she keeps on referring to 'here', obviously she has the pictures up in her world, but we don't so whenever it sounds like it should connect to the visual it makes a tangle in my brain. So I'm stopping to detangle. I feel a bit like when RealPlayer used to not keep up - buffering now. Or emptying buffer. One or t'other.
Its interesting stuff, and I'm also finding out more about my brain. Cool.
I had lunch and some chocolate. Probably too much chocolate. Now I have what might turn into a headache. Hmmm, how mysterious :eyeroll:
okay, went back and watched the rest
the whole 50 minute 'commentary' is indeed about how the opening sequence was made
and is fascinating
but I *wish* they hadn't made it a commentary
the movie noise gets in the way of the commentary often, especially once we get to the club sequence
and then the end of the commentary is speaking over the rape/murder
which is a serious mismatch
its hard enough to watch in context
with this dispassionate voiceover talking about something else entirely its really wrong
because you shouldn't be able to see those images and not think about them
so, had to close eyes and concentrate on the speaking only
not a good way to use that track
if there was a special edition with more how-did stuff I'd buy it
some fascinating stuff
