Doctor and Martha and Shakespeare, and the Globe like the TARDIS, wooden box with all that power inside.
A lot of it was fun, like playing spot the quote, and Shakespeare being flirty.
Some of it was less fun, like 'Rose would know'.
I do not think that particular thread made the season stronger.
The Doctor Who line on magic is a bit daft though, even considering. There's no such thing as magic, except there clearly is, but it's psychic power or the leverage of aliens who use magic instead of numbers.
... numbers describe the universe, they do not in and of themselves change it, if they did that would be magic.
So magic works... when the plot wants it to... and the rest of the time believing in it is Silly.
Or possibly Believing in things without asking how they work is silly.
The whole 'act like you own themplace, works for me' bit seems... ignorant
but the random black women in Elizabethan England was a good.
'Shall I compare thee to a summer's day'
is not the right sonnet for his Dark Lady.
Is still fun to watch though.
