beccaelizabethI think I remembered Kooey Kooey Kooey as being funnier.
In the good bits version in my head, Beetle is not actively racist, in that talking to island primitives way.
I dont think the story is racist cause Beetle is the butt of the joke and things go... poorly for his assumptions. But still. Not cool.
He thinks people are less educated and therefore dumber than him. Brain snob. Does not work out.
Also he tries to blame Booster for more than Booster actually did. Not cool either.
But they did do the double act and say nice things to each other also.
The stealing all the money seems like a bigger deal than it did when I was younger. It is not imaginary money to everyone in the story. Also, if any of the Rogues did that, they would be in prison so fast.
Instead Beetle and Booster have to clean.
Pretty funny.
But it strikes me again that Beetle and Booster approach their get rich quick schemes from kind of different places. For Beetle it seems more about getting bored and doing stuff because he can.
Major Disaster saved the day. Which is tricky with his powerset. I know from later he does start working with the arguably good guys, so, neat.
The whole thing with Max and Huntress is not okay. Mind control: a bad thing.
... also the line where Beetle and Booster are joking about Max killing them hits different now.

The omnibus is still good to read though :-)
