Legends of Tomorrow

beccaelizabethToday I finally watched the last disc of the latest season of Legends of Tomorrow, season 5.
It only took this long because the year we've been having has not left me with spare brain for that much sensory input. Also I am looking forwards to my back not feeling like this any time now. By the last episode what I was mostly thinking is my recliner has turned secretly evil and there's no way to sit any more that is not distractingly ow. But that is in no way the fault of the show.
I still love this show.
It throws so much together and cares not one whit for genre and does stuff that absolutely shouldnt work and then makes you care about it.
And while I could always stand to see more Mick I love the story he got this year and how Lita literally saved the world by just existing? Like they've gone from time aberrations bad oh no must protect timeline to screw that sometimes we screw things up for the better and it's all for the same reason, free will. People having the space to make their own choices.
And as well as all the heavy stuff about hell and dystopias and how far people will go to avoid pain or repair it, we get all the bright stuff too.
Winning immortality with beer pong? And then it doesn't even impact the plot, they just spend the day fighting across Britain to get to a pub (their Shaun of the Dead is showing). And zombies being a thematic thing? There's actual layers you can dig in to, it's not just, you know, absolute crazy careening around. It ends up making you think about what actually matters.
All the bits on the tv were great fun too, even though I'm like second hand embarrassed the whole time they dont know they're out of character. They sneak such heavy decisions through just dressed up like that. Deciding to focus on the future.
And I was about to get annoyed at how often that ends up meaning they can't save people, but, Behrad. They also do very much save people.
... I'm just still thinking about Leonard Snart, who also destroyed something to establish free will in the universe, but without all the... Legends stuff.
The further out they get from that moment the wilder their universe gets and it is fun.
Saving the world to a very Legends soundtrack... you just dont get those scenes on other shows.
And then swooping to the absolutely serious, with every bit of the family stuff.
It is so great.
And now I'm going to stay lying down for ... actually my back feels fine already. Cool.
So: still my favourite show, even though it is hard to focus after all this all.
