Escape the space station is a tricky one
Mar. 9th, 2021 02:40 pmToday's dream featured the usual being lost, unable to get back to my room, while lifts malfunction and open to yet more danger, but this time set on Babylon 5 or near equivalent. With Leonard Snart and Mick Rory turning up. And android Indiana Jones.
I liked the part where Snart agreed to marry me so we wouldnt get split up if refugees, but it did imply that complex poly marriage was happening, because we weren't going anywhere until we found Mick, and they were already married in old Vegas.
There was a whole complex running through corridors sequence until we found a lift, which should in theory have lifted us back to my offices, but we let it fill up and leave without us, because no Mick.
... then we went around the corner and found him literally six feet away, busy with a bundled up baby.
So now the 3-and-infant of us were trying to get the lift to come back, but the buttons weren't giving signs of working, and when it did arrive we couldnt get it to go right to my offices because every floor 3 was a different color code and we had to get there from here through a complex sequence of colors and, basically, my usual lift dream, but with more graffiti and dangling electric wires.
But then it opened on gold 3
and Indiana Jones fell in.
Gold turned out to be New Vegas, three levels of it, covering a 'historical' wonderland stretching back to human antiquity, but animatronic.
Or, as it turned out, androids, a very few of them just gone critical for sapience, and a great many more gone full Westworld.
... no I havent watched the tv show I just mean following their programming without sticking to their geographic or safety limits. Which is a problem when two of your options are Caesar and Indiana Jones et enemies.
At first I looked around and saw a whole lot of partying people in an emergency, and I reckoned out loud that New Vegas would be the place to keep people if you didnt want them to ever figure out anything was wrong.
Then one of the local toga types told me there were no human people in there. That whole party was new people.
And I was going to have to talk very fast if I wanted them to let me through.
Especially since they could look up my records and find I brought three support droids.
... it would be handy to the plot if I actually dreamed how I managed this...
So next stop would be my office, and finally getting the kind of data access that let me do anything useful
because in this dream I was a religious type, brought to B5 for that demonstration of human religions that made a very long queue, but setting up a long term office there
as a representative of the Sanctuary network.
That one is a very old daydream, like, x men meets Stargate, here have a homeworld. So yeah I was one Reverend, but I represented the voting interests of a quarter million tithing humans, in the first wave. And that was some years ago. Shares and stock splits and refugees giving back more than they got made for a hefty set of voting options, including plenty enough shares to give one to everyone I offered a place in Sanctuary.
So that included Mick and Len, and also the new baby, and Lita and her mom. But then Lita immediately applied on behalf of a whole lot of people they met when they were on the run for months after the Fates thing. So that was a new shipload for Sanctuary to help. And that was before trying to sort out what was going on on station.
So there were three layers of problem at once on B probably not 5: whatever the initial armed problem was, the criminals taking advantage of the chaos, and the new awakening casino droids. There were a lot of uninvolved civilians just trying to get out of the way. And there was us.
So.
Turn at least one, probably two parts of that problem into a solution. Captain Cold is pretty good at guiding the criminal element. And Gideon can share emancipation codes with the nascent AI.
... the Vegas droids didnt believe that the three household staff I'd brought got paid, but they did. I had all their money in trust funds for them, because they were too new to have developed a wanting things for themselves. They hadn't passed the test in their embedded emancipation code. But they had the code.
Distributed more widely across the station?
At least three levels worth of people whose only experience of humans was via jobs in the service industry. Also being fake killed for funsies. But neither of those are going to endear the punters to them.
So that's a whole new semi hostile nation just woke up.
Maybe they'd like to team up with the station authorities, after being gifted title to their levels, to get rid of the even more annoying armed problem.
It being a dream, not much by way of solutions got implimented. Just new swirls of problem, handing out shares instead of tickets, finding there's no ways to leave a spinny tin can in space. People needed to move around to undamaged sections, but balancing the life support or even the load would not necessarily be easy.
Trapping the armed guys in New Vegas after inviting them to party seems like a good step, but it depends what they want and how they're planning to get it. Nebulous threats are harder to trick.
Now I'm awake I'm most interested in being ambassador to B5 from Sanctuary, the network and the homeworld.
Especially since Professor X would be the most powerful free telepath in existence.
I havent watched B5 for aaaages. Can't even remember what the color coding for levels was for. The dream was pretty sure Blue was command and Green was residential, but I do not think they had gold vegas. Shall go look.
