Doctor Who Stranded 2
Jun. 27th, 2021 02:17 amI listened to the first two stories in this and then stopped because it was making me :-) and I wanted to stay with the warm fuzzies for a while.
The first one is very Plot and I got frustrated with one of the characters, but everyone is being very character too so it was interesting. But I liked the second one.
UNIT Dating has a happy ending. It's a groundhog day where the people who understand the stakes are not the ones in the loop. The Doctor travelling nearly undoes the lifelong relationship between two of the men in his building, interfering with the day they met, but because Andy is basically kind, it works out in the end. The two worked for UNIT back when the Doctor was stranded there. ... the Doctor makes the UNIT dating being difficult joke and it's almost funny. But they get their happy ending back in the end.
I'm not sure how I feel about new voices being the Brigadier. Obviously if he's going to be in stories at all they have to. But it is a bit feelings.
But I did like how he was in this story.
The bit set in 2020 where the UNIT guys memories start falling apart was very well done too, because it nips back and forth on the border of ordinary problems. Like, this time it turned out to be a time traveller messing with things, but having to deal with memories getting slippery is very human. And they didnt wrap it up too tidy, just enough to be going on with. I liked.
The Doctor's companions wondering if this happens to somebody somewhere every time they travel is good too, because we never really know how that part works out, but one logical answer is yes.
And these Stranded stories turn out to be about paradox and changing things you think you know, so it ties together.
So I liked all the parts of this and how they went together.
I recommend this one, it was nice.
And I stopped because you never know what the tone is going to do next, so I decided I could wait in the good bit.
Shall see what the others are like later.
