Stardew Valley
Jul. 8th, 2021 02:00 pmI have been playing this game for way too many hours for something where I'm not even sure I like it in any given five minutes.
There's always something to do though, and something to do better. The lingering suspicion I'll get the hang of it any minute now keeps me going. Next year the crops will have a plan, and sprinklers, and possibly even a fence.
... but in any given minute you're just doing the exact same clicky thing you were doing a few minutes ago, so I'm not sure that's really a fun thing.
There's a danger cave to go adventure mining in. And when I first picked it up I figured, great, an adventure with somewhere to spend the proceeds. But now I'm just avoiding it and digging on my farm. It's like, when you're being an Adventurer, you get grand cosmic powers, and also some armour, and friends. When you're a Farmer with a wooden sword and an ongoing need for copper ore, you have a stick. And possibly leather boots. And then things try to kill you. And I find I dont want to go down the death hole. Sure it's as easy to shrug off an injury as to eat anything, but, the cave is trying to kill you. Why go where it is trying to kill you?
You only have a health meter when you go down the caves. You dont need a health meter if you stay in sensible farming world.
So I have gone from Pathfinder, where the stakes ramp up to possibly killing a god, and you try and juggle running a kingdom in between stabbing things a lot, to Stardew Valley, where there are many plants and also thus far chickens, and on the whole I'd rather run the farm. Theoretically both involve an adventure bit and build projects to spend it on, but when the scale is like, can I afford a kitchen yet, I find I am far less inclined to stomp off down the nearest cave.
... also, if there is a way to cast fireball in this one, I have not found it yet. Which is obviously less fun.
So basically it turns out I dislike my character getting hurt when the detailed view makes it feel more realistic. And also I dont know if they'd die or stay dead.
... funnily enough...
Maybe tomorrow I'll figure out if I like it or not.
Or just find out what the winter crops are.
One of those.
