BFA DW Live 34
Sep. 5th, 2021 08:08 pmI found this one very chilling
but also very old media?
like it's framed as old school radio news, one to many broadcasting, sponsored by rich dudes originally and then controlled by the state. It wouldnt work the same if the many to many mesh or podcasts were possibilities.
... initially I wrote nothing about it would work, but, it's centrally about misinformation and trying to get the truth out like that would help, and... misinformation is going to work on any tech.
The other tech thing that bothered me is this colony really needs reliable renewable energy. I mean I guess SPOILERS technically Fuel Is People is renewable, but. They're post Earth offworld colonies, in the DW era when Earth is uninhabited, kind of following on from the evacuation in Dreamtime. So they could have future tech. But they dont have now tech. And sure, that's plausible when emergencies happened and everybody left, you can dump the tech level however hard you want. But. Biomass fuel is a thing, sure, but if you can explain how all those humans are eating or where the fuel comes from to transport them there, well... I am just left with the niggling feeling that the math works about as well as the Matrix did.
But since the whole story works up until that point on pure political evil then have at it I guess. Honestly with the point of view we get it could be a lie. ... which is uncomfortable to think about really.
I liked how the story did and didnt involve the Doctor and Ace and Hex. ... especially since I have a playlist running so I dont know for sure if there will always be a Hex, so that was a nice reveal to me this time. Obviously if I read the cover I would know, but.
My favourite bit is actually the few moments at the end after the TARDIS left. Because the situation the Doctor left could be called a peaceful transition of power, like he wanted, but the situation the listener gets... sounds just a bit worse for the old regime.
Because 'what about after he left' is always a question.
I think I liked it, but much of it felt a bit real. No funny rubber suits when its all audio. Just the machinations and the screaming.
