DW BFA Night Thoughts
Sep. 6th, 2021 09:02 pm... well this was a bad plan right before bed time.
... I am in fact planning to stay awake and listen a second one. Or a different thing. Just about anything else.
Sooooo. This one is Very Horror. And dark. And creeptastic. And
about the nastiest version of a time paradox yet.
also the Doctor, Ace, and Hex are explaining the plot to each other for many minutes at the end, so even the story thinks it is being somewhat obscure.
But basically, take that thing about the cat in the box being both alive and dead, and think a bit King.
In this story, a particularly weak time experiment means that changes to the past both do and do not happen. So someone is both dead and not dead. Which is a state there are many words for, in a certain sort of fiction.
They are mostly dead.
They are also very, very, angry.
So a series of nasty Consequences happen to the people that made it happen.
The Doctor figures it out, and as far as he knows sorts it out, but
this is another one where we get to hear what happens after he leaves.
I imagine for the writer it is a cake and eat it technique, where it's not the Doctor's fault but it can end very nasty.
... did I mention I am going to be listening to Something Else pretty much immediately?
*shudders*
ANYway
as well as this being particularly nasty
(yes I know this is a show where people soup and spaceships made of people parts and Cybermen just kind of in general are very much possibilities)
In this story Ace was mostly a bit drowned, drugged, or tied up somewhere. And Hex got to run around in the dark and then punch somebody. And whatever the Doctor was trying to do it did not seem much like he made things better.
the story happened to and around them, mostly.
So I have a vague feeling I want to write a fixit where they get to be themselves and use their strengths, but then it would end up a different genre.
I also realize part of why I did not like the ending is that we the listener did not get in to the TARDIS and depart safely, we got left behind,
in the dark
with that.
Not my favourite.
So my first thought is to follow the Doctor into his next adventure immediately...
I think I shall delete this from my phone. I dont think it's bad exactly, but it is not my idea of fun.
