Doctor Who audios
Nov. 10th, 2021 08:03 amI have been listening to 7 Ace and Hex (and 4 of the lost stories 7 and Ace) while I play Stardew Valley.
Don't know if it's the slightly not focusing on it but I dont have much to say about most of them even when they're strong stories that made me feel a lot. Which they are. I just went through fom Angel of Scutari to Protect and Survive, which includes A Death in the Family and all the heartbreak of that, and a lot of huge payoff for long time setups. And Hex's increasing bitter disillusionment with 7 is just... fair, at this point, Hex has had The Worst Stuff happen to him even without the big reveal.
But I just listened to Protect and Survive
and
deleted it from my phone.
Strong story! Definitely did what it set out to do!
Utter nightmare fuel!
Just putting the characters through a nuclear attack, and the fallout shelter after, and the sirens and the warnings and the utter futility... I mean I don't know about the rest of you but I read that graphic novel and it was just as graphic this time around and
too real.
Plus!
It's the Doctor at his darkest who set this up!
I mean, trapping people in the dark fate they intended for others might seem narratively satisfying, but, I vote for an entire lack of dark fates, thank you.
Also it seems slightly (slightly) unfair or out of character for the Doctor based purely on Big Finish? Like ... slightly.
... which is a Concern.
But my shoulders ended up around my ears just from the sirens part, and I keep having to bring them down again even this much time later, however much that is, maybe an hour?
So, strong story, but I want to remind me not to listen to it again because Nightmare.
... though I just searched my journal and I have indeed reacted like this before so, might manage to forget again.
And to be clear I am not complaining about the story, that was solid, I just... do not need to hear it again.
Also I only vaguely remembered it, possibly from mentally filing it under Nope, so that was more yikes than I remembered.
So, dont need those feels again.
There is a lot of solid writing from Big Finish but that just makes it more of an emotional rollercoaster when it really works.
