Power, control, feedback, incentive
Apr. 12th, 2022 06:40 pmHave been reading enough different fandoms of one author's work that I feel I have spotted a pattern.
They ship the one with the morals with the one with the means.
Or possibly the one close enough to see the problem with the one who can do anything about it.
This results in a lot of stuff that looks very much like
monarchy yaay, kings and emperors for the win, or, translated to the modern, lets get some billionaires applied to this problem
since the ones with the means didnt usually get them by being nice about it.
But it's more about finding one person with all the leverage
and then applying attractive enough encouragement
that they use it.
... it's appealing, it results in stuff getting done, and an author can make sure its nice stuff
but it doesnt really solve the system problem
where someone in charge of that much power
seldom hits consequences early enough
to steer.
consequences happen to the poor people first.
getting someone to notice that solely by way of that one charismatic person telling them stuff...
not long term effective.
... gettingbthat someone to care aboutbthe vonsequence bearing classes by waymofbthat one really attractive oerson, also a bitmlimited, but an appealing start.
Still, I do really like the idea of telling someone off (who really needs told) and actually being listened to
so
that part is nice.
It's a tricky one though. I mean, how do you get power control and feedback? democracy was supposed to do it by letting people complain with their votes, but *gestures vaguely at many things*.
it seems like the least worst but.
Also there's stuff like, I do daydream about getting to complain to assorted Captains of assorted Enterprises (and sometimes other ships)
but a ship does not seem like a democracy
so
I suppose complaints go up the chain of command same way orders go down.
They'd have to be pretty loud to get all the way there.
ANYway, I'm not naming the author in case I'm making imaginary patterns, and I'm not criticising them either, they can write what pleases them, and clearly do.
I was just thinking about getting things done.
It would really be super nifty if there was one person you could just ask
and they'd think you were so right about everything
they'd do.
