Rupert the Riley
Jun. 8th, 2004 03:08 pmFrom that list of Bowie titles. I had a thought.
Its a slightly odd title. Well, kind of very odd really. But. *The* Riley, like 'The Dalton' in Nan's fic. Like a title. A personal name used to describe a function.
Riley Finn's function was to be safe dependable always there guy. Someone to be taken for granted really. Someone who cared, and would continue to care. Someone strong enough to take care of himself, someone who knew enough of the secrets the good guys didnt have to keep things from him.
Huh. Fits.
Riley was also the guy who had personal issues, a hidden dark side, and a teensy bit of a death wish, plus a thing for controlled violence.
Which also fits.
And finally theres the Connor family apparently also called Riley. People filling the function of parents without any biological bond.
Which fits too.
And this is very strange, because its the title of a song utterly unrelated to the Buffyverse.
I know, probably if I rephrased a lot of the comparison would break down, but it struck me as neat.
