Long times

Time is awkward.

The clock in my head stopped in 2020 and I keep having to add two years to my first calculation of 'how long'
even though I would have said I am very aware it has been two years since 2020.



Also don't ask how long it has been since the 90s
or high school
or... many things.




I keep finding my age has caught up with characters that were multiples of me on first viewing
and I just have not got my head around that.

I find the characters i identify with getting younger and younger, which is disturbing. I think it comes from finding my identity now, rather than the age those characters; or rather when I was the age of those characters.

Recently came, or clicked into the knowledge that I am Queer (something that I didn't start identifying as until I was in my forties) but also Trans & Non-binary.

Still processing what it means, but it feels more comfortable saying and thinking in those terms than at any other time. It's also changing how I perceive and react to stories and characters I've enjoyed; also how I deal with stories I had difficulty with, or still do.

Still disturbing, but not necessarily in a bad way. Some times it's good to find yourself disturbed by something.

when I was in college there were characters doing the same things as me or characters the same age as me, but not so much both. So it do be tricky.

All the time memes suggest these are common experiences. Then you get to the 'I'm older than the older character' stage.

Indeed. ... and eventually none the characters are older, in many shows... except Methos. Methos will reliably be older for a looooong time...

Very true. Although Spike is also pretty safe in all likelihood. And we're not even as far advanced as Doc Brown, although his timeline is a bit complicated.
