The Lone Centurion volume 1 (Rome)
Nov. 11th, 2023 01:04 pmThree adventures with Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, plastic edition, travelling the slow path.
Sorry to say but the first two just werent very good. Not his fault, but Rory had no one to talk to so the plot just happened at him persistently while he tried to dodge it.
The third part, I Rorius by Jacqueline Rayner, had clearly had the same idea as me about the problem and gave him both opportunities to talk 'to' Amelia and a friend to discuss things with. That gives him a chance to be a person, so it works a lot better. I liked it quite well. Lots of memorable bits and some funny, like Amelia of the Ponds, his new household goddess, with great legs. But even the funny folded back into the plot so it was elegant storytelling. It was good.
I'm unlikely to revisit the first two, but the third one I'll likely listen to again sometime.
