Am reading more fic.

The death of personality is not a happy ending, retcon is really creepy, and mindwiping someone back to childhood is not a reasonable way to deal with trauma, which I personally would have thought was pretty obvious, but *waves vaguely at stories*.

Also, if someone has lost all their memories, but someone who loved them still loves them, the story needs to put some work in to define both 'love' and 'them'. I mean it makes sense to still fancy their appearance, but the story was very clear they were having to start over from tabula rasa, so in what sense are they even the same person?

Which ought to be plenty of ground for a story, like the Flash introducing Harrison Harry HR Sherloque Nash Wells and co, and doing that arc about falling for alternate universe equivalnets over and over again. It's like we do in fanfic, different iterations, sometimes dropped in an AU and started over with nothing the same, so we're making arguments about what things make a character fundamentally themselves. But I am unconvinced that what I read actually made such an argument.

Ah well. Lots more to read.

... I actually havent been reading fic much for a while cause I keep having this problem where whatever the fic I'm looking for is it's probably the one about the very specific versions of characters that have been wandering off from their character baseline in my head for between fifteen and twenty five years, but, it's something to do.

I think if the ones in my head met their canon counterparts they would be very AU by now. But partly that's because canon stays still but the people in the back of your mind become more and more likely to agree with you...
