Feb. 5th, 2024 10:59 amI read in Asimov's what turned out to be a time travel story about saving the world with good midwifery
which is refreshing, most time travel stories seem to be about killing someone, not fixing things by actually making them better
yet this map of an alternate twentieth century rather depended on the theory the whole thing turned on one guy doing terrible things
because he was disabled.
Or because the way he was treated at the time was appalling, both medically and socially.
But still. I am... sort of sighing about the whole theory.
The story also saved the world by doing better rights for women and accelerating progress in maternity care, which would have huge knock on effects for sure.
But the headline was
prevent one disability and save the world
and I do not like the bounce.
