Jun. 1st, 2024 02:23 amI just read a short fic that wanted to introduce characters to each other but had not solved the basic
why are they talking.
... I find the plausibility gap insurmountable when someone is just lying there confessing to multiple crimes. Some involving explosives at school while students were there. Literally anyone who wasn't there is going to react poorly to that one.
(In the fic they did not react poorly. They were impressed and doled out praise and sympathy. And also a bunch of classified information. Because clearly they recognised greatness. *sigh*)
When two people
with a whole stack of secrets each
whose lives and freedom depend on secrecy
get together?
They need *significant* incentive to risk even a drip feed of information sharing.
Though I did just rewatch Stolen Earth and Journey's End and everyone got connected pretty quick in that one
because they knew some of the same people so they clicked together easier
and they all knew the one calling them
and she had been official.
Also, if they don't share, the world dies,
so, significant incentive.
... and still, they surprise each other multiple times,
especially Rose and Jack
(Rose almost ignoring Jack, *sigh*)
Journey's end did remarkably well sketching the characters
(adding to the snippets from Turn Left but reminding us who everyone was and where we'd left them)
whilst also being really messy.
Story density in different parts of an xover makes it really difficult to mix.
BTW, I couldnt remember how to get to the Whoniverse page on the iplayer on my TV. I've got it fine on the web, it shows plenty of things in my browser, but I dont see what to press to get to it from the smart tv app. Anyone?
... or do we have to search individually by already knowing what we're looking for...
iplayer has so many more things than I can ever squeeze out of it...
