Across two stories there are 5, Tegan, Nyssa and Marc, but rather the point is they don't spend the time in the same story until the very end.
I think I liked these stories but it's weird having a Companion lite / Doctor lite set in an audio.
I wasn't exactly gripped by the plot of Thin Time because too many of the clues were like unreliable narrator stuff, but a lot of good tense build up happened. I did like the Doctor's emotional journey at the end, even if it concurrently demonstrated this is one lesson he keeps on having to learn. Also I didn't recognise who Big Finish thought that last character was, so it felt like another bit of the adventure with impostors and secret future selves and Things from Beyond, which rather distracted from the feelings bit. Still, you get the emotional point when 5 does, and see exactly why it's difficult for him.
Madquake was several fun elements and a lot of feelings, plus a therapist who doesnt do any therapy but the idea is there. I'm not sure the best way to make me emotionally connect with Marc is for him to lose his words for a bit. Most relatable, sure, but silent people in an audio are invisible, so possibly not the most effective. He's got an interesting emotional arc to deal with that this story progresses. Also Tegan gets stuff to do and emotions to feel (grouchy, mostly), and smart stuff to say at the end. The main thrust of having something dangerous inside, trying to deal with anger while trying to hide from the judgement of others, the knock on effects of trauma and how we are and arent programmed by the past, all the characters showed different facets of that well.
The story ending just as the Doctor arrives back and there's still a therapist there leaves me wondering what that conversation is going to be like.
... not half way long enough, judging by the next ten regenerations...
I think I liked the stories but I'm not quite invested in Marc yet and I'm not sold on the fractured format even though they made it thematic.
Good components though.
