I ended up looking on the internet for
gentlemen's personal grooming kit
(far from the first phrasing I tried, but everything else led to electric things)

turns out the sets I was thinking of exist
but the listings I found were all vintage
and probably from the 1940s.

So Ianto Jones probably wouldnt have one
but Jack Harkness almost certainly did.

I suspect lately disposable and electric have taken over instead
which works up until you are planning to go off planet.

... it just kind of bothers me how many adventurers are shown wandering around clean shaven
but lack inventory space for a shaving kit.

apparently razor blades are meant to last ten shaves??? well that is no use to my characters.

cut throat razors say 'lifetime'. better, but scarier obvs.

I looked on something like cut throat club website and found beautiful shiny sharp thing
and it cost £530
for ebony handle and damask blade.
No functional difference from the one that cost £75.
I am such a sucker for shiny sharp things.

...or just one really good shaver. with like a super sci fi charger that fits all alien plants i guess

If they were using ultra tech or magic they controlled then there could be solutions
but I was imagining like, here is a door, go explore, what do you pack?

A solar charger can cover a lot of situations but once I start thinking about Harkness I start thinking really long times, and things aren't much built to last lately.

I read this post and had a sudden memory flash that told me that Jack doesn't need to shave, because he has no beard growth (something something 51st Century). I have no idea where this comes from, but it feels like an Official Thing, cause it sits in the Canon part of my brain. However I don't remember a source.

I feel like I remember a story where Jack was fussing about his hair because it takes ages and ages to change because of the not ageing much. It did grow back just the same after he got exploded. But it was different in flashbacks Fragments sideburns. So I don't know.
