I relistened Doctor Who: Static today
and am reminded Big Finish can do absolutely anything to characters they invented and don't have to put back in the box
though to be fair the entire point of the trick was the ability to play temporal silly buggers and put things back exactly how they were left

... the entire point of the story was to make up a reason why no one does it that way.

it's frustrating because it starts out sounding like it's about the atemporality of grief and how remembering the dead can lead to getting stuck in a single moment
but then it's all sci fi about it and... I don't know, the ending should be made of feelings but I wasn't feeling it.

Because it made up a rule just to show these people in particular cheating it.
Feels meh.

Also this one was so close to being a Torchwood story I feel the presence of loopholes even more. Like, if it was Torchwood, there'd be more of a cost at best, and probably no loopholes. And it would be a stronger story for it, and one about how we have to learn how to move on even when haunted, rather than one that just abandons the emotional metaphor stuff for wish fulfilment that feels cheaty.

The Doctor is always an exception, and it doesn't feel particularly heroic this time, somehow. Probably because he doesn't struggle, he just does a silly voice. It always feels cheaty when the pain gets taken out.

I think last time this was where I got side tracked so the next Constance and Flip adventure will be new to me. Which should be interesting, because Constance went from being willing to live WWII a second time if it would just get her home to her own life again, to... all this. Which is quite a lot to react to.

Wonder what they'll do with it.
