Hours spent playing Wrath of the Righteous yesterday: ... all of them? I don't know, I don't think I hit 24, but the ones between midnight and actually going to bed were not intentional in the slightest. My watch needed recharging and I thought Just One More Thing and, well, hours.
But I have beaten two DLCs thoroughly, ended a demon lord, and been quite surprised we could survive the shadow arena. ... I mean technically we did not, I spent so many diamonds on ressurection, there was this absolute mess of a boss with possession powers and I think I needed Mind Blank and Protection from Evil but had not cast them so we just took turns getting possessed, dying, and getting ressurected. That was a bit not good.
... it takes whole numbers of minutes to cast all the buffs we routinely wear at this late in the game, npand I keep realising we forgot some by how my characters die, which is the absolute most boring way to do magic. Blasting and shields, mind control and shields, it's all so boring. My characters after the war would do something more interesting like architecture or agriculture.
I like the conversations you can have with your companions at the festival, but it really just underlines that Wenduag doesn't get any better. I thought if she didn't betray us there would be a way for her to be less evil, but she's talking about human sacrifice at the party, she's just... nope. And that brings out the worst in others. Game shouldn't be making me regret leaving people alive.
Sosiel and the wines is fun. Greybor having fans is fun, especially since their main reason seems to be 'his costume is easiest'. And it shows the public perception of him is more monster hunter than assassin, so he has options. Ember having to work harder to convert nobles than demons is ... actually kind of exhausting, but illustrative. Lann and the food is fun.
Everyone except Camellia and Regill were there this time, and I've seen Regill's concerns before, so I know what their stories are now.
... mostly it's about PTSD and how they're going to be seeing demons behind every corner for a *while* after this war. Trever isn't very interactive, crowds are freaking him out and he doesn't get a story. Sosiel realises he hasn't thought about grapes pretty much since the war started, and starts thinking After The War. Seelah can't relax and is drinking water because you know what happened at the last festival. Regill would have been checking the defenses again again. Nenio needs several tests to believe the demon lords aren't there, because they were last time and it's statistically likely. Just so many stories about how they're so tense all the time.
And then they get kidnapped twice, just not by demons.
The shadow arena fights are insane. A lot of them are weirdly easy, but then there's the other ones, the boss bosses. At all times the Knowledge rolls are the only thing saving you, but, at all times fights with guys that are in many ways your equal and opposite remain possible. As the guy at the arena points out, this kind of challenge level means we're only having trouble with demigods. Which is weird to realise. Especially in combination with the whole arc of Too Tense that was happening at the festival. And I get it, I was right there with the characters, throw a dart and have a drink and wonder when the history repeating kicks off. But high level characters can handle it, even if that involves being a bit blase about death.
And then there's the whole thing with Razmir. That is yet another thread that brings into question what a god even is. And you have to fight some low level characters, they keep attacking you and dying, it's really depressing. So you get both ends of the contrast, look how much you can survive, look where you started from, regular people are... just so screwed. And being exploited by this gold cult that uses then to power the masks I think. So creepy. And Razmir cannot even imagine that there's such a thing as real powers, or possibly as real gods. Dude is going to get a Surprise at the judgement.
I did the Defender's Heart party twice because I have only just realised what the screenshot button do and I was slow the first time. ... I never use that bit. But my characters were mostly still stoneskinned so it looks like a bunch of statues had a party.
I like all the ways you can tease Daeran about being secretly nicer than he wants to be. He's still A Lot and mocks himself as hard as he mocks everyone else, but you get those options to emphasise his vulnerability, and his youth. Possibilities remain for him.
I did get the big conversation with your love interest, which was Arushalae this time.
... having played almost all that romance, I think it's way more like therapy than romance. I mean you want to find a helpful and supportive partner, but explaining that there's no such thing as thought crime and everyone is anxious sometimes are not romantic conversations, so I don't know where the romance even is on this relationship. Would not do again. But seeing the church of Desna all fixed up was nice and the butterflies are pretty.
Then I was going to quit for the night but on map view it was demon army time and then I realised I had almost finished all the cards. By 1st Abadius 4717 there were only a couple of early game relics left to do, evil ones as it turns out, they should warn you earlier. So by the time I actually quit everything was done, Nahyndri defeated, Nocticula mildly annoyed, Kenabres revisited and defended, party attended. Game almost done.
So. Way too many hours, probably should have been two days. But the only thing left is the final fight, and we are very well equipped to do it.
And after that I shall have to do activities that are not Wrath of the Righteous.
... unless I do Inevitable Excess again with this more optimised team.
... but after after that, other things.
I'm sure I shall think of some when I get there...
