Doctor Who 12 and Clara
Aug. 7th, 2025 07:55 pmI am rewatching the season after Danny died, so far up to The Girl Who Died, and it is being a lot more interesting than I remember. Clara has more going on than I remembered, layers and trying to connect to people on shared grief. And the Doctor... he's angry and caring and fascinating. He just realised who frowned that face and what his message to himself is, which is an interesting angle, because then you wonder about literally all the other hims. But as soon as he tries to act on it he fears he goes too far.
I like how he is clearly scared and running and being some kind of clowning version of himself, or himselves, throwing a party and all of him are invited. But very clearly aware that there are were ought to be limits, just, like, leaning on them hard until they break.
These two part stories give it a lot of room to manuever, I like them.
Missy is very.
Everything with the Daleks was... the whole sewer graveyard thing made them even worse! The Doctor and Davros and mercy! Tricks and traps!
Very good stuff.
The stuff with the Fisher King kind of makes necromancy canon in TV Doctor Who, because using people's souls didn't even have a sciencey gloss on it that time, which is... interesting.
The Power Of Stories saving the day is grand and all, with a slipped in comment about only seeing the world through screens, but I've sort of stopped believing that a news story can just stop things cold. The fighting keeps going. And saying the bad guys are just that concerned with their image gets odd when they wear tin cans and human disguises. But it was a good story.
So they've been good to rewatch and I'm definitely getting more out of them than I remembered from the first time around.
But on the plus side I do remember these ones in general, unlike that half season from the end of college.
Shall keep watching later.
Other than that today I did the laundry and realised that after a full load of laundry I could detect no shrinkage in the laundry pile, as it seems to fill all space available.
I forsee more laundry in my near future.
And my far future actually.
The Doctor's best trick: making that few clothes last that long.
