Highlander season 3
Jan. 15th, 2006 08:16 pmSo, new season, new episodes. New to me even.
Yes, I've had the set a while. Bad fan no biscuit.
But actually many biscuit, because new episodes! Whee!
I'd pretty much forgotten how much of Highlander I plain haven't seen. I mean ITV only ever showed the first two seasons. And by the time I briefly had Sky they were showing reruns of season 5. So 3 and 4 are a bit of a mystery to me. Cool! New and shiny!
Samurai - lots of neat stuff here. About the sword, and honor, and strength. And that move right at the end with his bare hands, showing the sword is not the power.
"Honor. It isn't about making the right choice, it's about taking the consequences."
Faith in prison. Huh.
Still and all, I say its about making the right choice. And making another choice if the first one goes wrong.
The guy killing a mortal is I think enough to put him on the wrong side of MacLeod's usual code of when to kill. But the whole thing about doing it for her own good... Protecting her spirit is one thing, but she made choices and he unmade them for her. That's a whole other. If she was a he would he do that?
I like the flashback story for showing Duncan all clumsy and then putting polish on him.
I dislike the flashback story because I still think ritual suicide is a really dumb response to absolutely anything.
But whatever. The story was nicely written and full of pretty, with a sense of place and culture that was exactly what was missing from that Egyptian mess. I don't know enough to know how accurate that sense was, but it seemed shiny.
I also like that flashback Duncan doesn't know everything. Showing him learning it is showing him earning it.
I want to stay and have more thoughts, but I also want to watch the next episode. I feel like I should ration the new eps, savour them, maybe wait in between as if they were on TV.
But I'm also the person who can't open a box of chocolates without finishing them.
Expect more episode reviews by the end of the day...
