Jan. 16th, 2006 11:55 pmTonight's insomnia induced idiocy:
Immortals as organ donors
major organ bank problems. As in, Immortals become them.
Combine it with the ethics and medtech of Wolfram & Hart
and you get rooms full of littls clear coffins with parts of Immortals in them.
Also wandered the story in my head around to 'doh! no killings people if they ask you to!' Because my first thought when character found Immortal in a jar was to grant their request and kills them. But people survive quite well without arms and legs and stuffs. I mean, it isn't fun, I'm sure they'd chose limbs if limbs was there for to be chose, but people right now live like that. If there is a brain in there and going to be surviving, chopping of heads is not the right solution. Assisstive technology, really fancy wheelchairs, and livings on Holy Ground is the right solution.
The correct response to suicidal people is to help them, but not to help them do it.
Which actually comes up more than once in Highlander. And Angel. And pisses me off every time. So my character doing it feels really really bad about it. Ick.

Date: 2006-01-17 04:57 pm (UTC)What do you think about the idea that immortals eventually grow back limbs, it just takes a long time? I know it's not exactly canon, but I've seen it in fic, and I can't think of anywhere it's explicitly stated as impossible in canon. (And if body banks are possible, then imortals can regenerate organs, so why not limbs?)
Otherwise, I'm with you. An immortal in a wheelchair doesn't last too long, unless they're the type that wants to live on holy ground forever.

Date: 2006-01-18 05:31 pm (UTC)There's no evidence Immortals can regenerate limbs, and some that they can't (Xavier), so I'd have to say no. Organs do regenerate (though I don't know if eyes count as different from insides). Immortals get blown up or impaled or whatever, they heal good as new. Don't know for sure that if stuff got removed it would heal up just as well, but if it didn't Nefertiri would be in big trouble if she was prepared in the traditional way (mummies got their insides taken out and put in jars).
Also I think I recall times people trying to scare an Immortal threaten to cut their arms and legs off and leave them that way. Would be less scary if it was temporary.
