Sentinel on DVD
Apr. 22nd, 2006 09:53 amso I got the DVDs of The Sentinel
which are a bit basic, and annoyingly lack subtitles
but have lots of episodes on them
shiny!
first thought: Wow! Not fuzzy!
tapes from germany redubbed with US sound were very nice and worky at the time, but by now? oh *dear*.
have discovered that I need to set these on shrink to fit the TV too. which leaves me wondering how many other DVDs have been falling off the edge of the screen and it just didn't occur to me to check before.
This is leading me to lots of cultural studies thoughts about how the tech can modify the message.
second thought: huh. lots of bits I don't remember.
Like, I always manage to forget there are girls.
I mean I remember, like, Carolyn, and Rhonda, and female characters who just have stuff to do in the story.
but the kissing kind of girls? usually so boring! get back to Jim and Blair already!
Blair is still as adorable as ever.
and Jim has great smile lines.
I'm vaguely tempted to make an icon set of eyes of my favourite characters, with all the lines showing. lines pretty. tell you things too. When Jim smiles his face just lights up. Got to love that.
Its been a while since I watched the series, or read fic, or interacted with fandom. But I still consider myself a fan. For they live in my head.
Just, mostly as a good bits version. Sort of polished up a bit.
The actual series has this odd emphasis, trying to be about girl kissing and... weird plot twists like sending someones dead twin out in a hostage exchange. When actually of course it is about guys, not technically kissing but only because its TV, and the spirit guide shaman sentinel stuff.
Fanfic knows better what the show is meant to be.
