Slash fic often seems to be writing gay separatists, and not only do people show up, they don't so much seem to notice.

In my experience, when I try to write about gay issues--even in a very nonseparatist context--it is indeed true that nobody shows up. And there've been a million threads where I say that slash characters are gay and 200 people say no they're not, so I think JW is right this time.

In the (few, long ago) fics I've written, I usually have some het couples in there too, at least in the background. I can't do the "everyone they know is gay, gay, gay" thing.

I try not to.

But more often than not, I don't write a group situation, just two people, who happen to be with each other.
