sociology essay progress
Jun. 7th, 2006 04:46 amHave used about 700/1100 words
(not counting the Bibliography, title, or anything [in square brackets], because that adds another 120)
Have covered to my satisfaction postmodern and pluralist theories of media effects, specifically violence.
I now pause to do the happy dance.
I have decided to leave the manipulative (hypodermic) model until last for word count reasons. There's *tons* of research that simply assumes that model ie Bobo doll, and I could burn the rest of my words real easy.
I might have to rearrange / take out one bit of evidence, because its just some stupid woman mouthing off in the Guardian really, but it sort of introduces the next model (in a this is wrong because way) so I leave it in for now.
Next, the (vaguely shouty) hegemonic model. I'm currently a bit vague on how the basic 'powerful people tell us stuff and leave space around the edges to make us feel not-squashed' fits with the 'and this is to do with violence because' part.
I think its by way of definitions of violence.
I also suspect this is the section where I tie it to concepts of ideology, which is the one learning outcome I haven't already covered.
I shall go read notes.
It is too warm in here. This is irritating.
