Observation on identification
Sep. 26th, 2006 09:53 pmWhen ever anyone starts a sentence "We're all much closer to being", they are wrong.
Don't matter if it's Dean vs Sam, Xander vs Buffy or Giles vs Ethan, they're wrong.
Because they said 'all'.
There are six billion people on this planet. That means at least six billion different identities. And they'd probably identify with sixty-six billion different characters if they had the options. Depending on mood and time and stuff.
Plus everyone has their own reading of a character, and their own take on which parts are significant and/or important.
Specifics of Dean vs Sam? I'm not really a Sam. He functions well in the real world. I'm more of a Dean, with my own specialised corner of expertise, liking the predictability of monsters. Remember that ep where the bad things turned out to be human? Unpredictable. Weird and scary.
Plus, if we're all like Sam, I want my telekinesis. The nightmares I already got. Being useful data would be nifty. But moving stuff around without having to stand up and such? Priceless.
If there was one character we 'all' wanted to be, that would be the character in the most popular show imaginable, on account of everyone watching it.
There's a noticeable lack of 'all' in watching.
We don't 'all' anything, and it irritates me whenever someone says so.
It has been a very long day and I rant, even though it be obvious.
I go sleep now.
