Just watched the new RH.

The part I got excited about was the Torchwood ad that ran directly after it.

Though my love for Torchwood is already uberfannish, that wasn't the only reason.

I don't like the distinctive features, the style, the way it is shot, those stupid slow motion we'll show the cool bit half a dozen times so you really know it was cool bits. Oddly enough, if they have to show it more than once, it is my opinion it wasn't that cool the first time.

I didn't like the dialogue. Clunky, to my mind.
I don't fancy any of the actors, with the possible exception of Will Scarlet, who we only saw like twice anyways.
This might be a beard issue. I really don't like beards.

I didn't fancy Marian either. Nice attitude, cheap look.
Also, throwing half a matched set and expecting to get away with it isn't actually very clever.
On the other hand I suspect she ends up in the greenwood too pretty soon, and that would be one way to do it.

The costumes bugged me. Nicer than Blakes 7, so entirely tolerable, but... *shrugs*. Didn't look right to me is all.

I may get used to it.
I'm going to give it some rope, watch next week as well.
But right now, I'm just not enamoured of it at all.

Also, I'd forgotten how many of the common elements I don't like. That whole nobility bit, I've gone right off it. Being born don't put you in any special relation to the world. Have to earn it.
Which, the contrast with the other 'nobles' makes clear, and yet, still it annoys me.

Looks very British.
Modern British.
Even in the shapes of the actors.

Unfortunately that isn't working for me.

Also, there are issues like gender and race and how any treatment of them that isn't going to wind me right up on general principle is going to wind me up on basis of accuracy to the time.
Disability could be an interesting one. Lots of people with bits chopped off makes for possible issues to explore.

I'll tell you what else I just realised is bugging me - for some reason Robin isn't convincing me as an archer. As a poser, yes, he poses great. But something about the archery is bugging me.
Don't know why.
Just didn't look right to me.

All in all, I'm just grumbly about it.

On the other hand I've felt that way about every new series pretty much ever. I can't remember anything that made me squee at first sight. So, I'll give it time.

In more general news, the sound on my television is *nasty*. I need better speakers. And also even with the signal booster (external plus internal) it reckons the signal for BBC1 is only up to 80, which don't sound so brilliant. Sometimes it went pixels and lines. Annoying.

Plus there was a bit in the middle where there weren't any subtitles.

I'll admit the subtitles might have contributed to my not so much liking the pacing on the speech, but without them I need to turn the tele up twice as loud to figure the words out, so I keep them.

Will watch next week. Might even like it.
Am going to be grumpy basically on account of it being exactly what it said on the tin, only in ways that I'd managed to skim past since last time I was interested in the whole Robin Hood thing.
