Robin Hood, week 2
Oct. 14th, 2006 07:57 pmSomehow it's less fun when they go around actually saying "I love you"
So, they're making it topical. That whole 'back from the wars' bit made me wonder, but now there's the whole 'different law because they're at war in the Holy Land' bit.
I know it always has to be relevant to the audience in some way to keep their attention, but this? Kind of clumsy.
Actually it might just be the thing where I gave up on BSG for too much depressing, I gave up on watching the news for too much depressing, and now the pretty boys with bows show is going there too.
Also, axes. Will is the one with the axes, yes? Not only do I like the way he looks, I like the way he moves. This is promising.
Robin I still can't buy. I don't think he gets hit well either.
I found a spark of interest when they went to the 'tired of bloodshed' place. Now there's some interesting potential conflict.
Trouble is, how many ways can it be resolved? Either it will be a 'thankyou, I can kill again!' or they'll keep going as they began, in classic kid's show form, where nobody dies. Like this week where it turned out to be a trick. And what the bloody hell was the point of that? Make him apologise in public? Risk all their lives, for that?
Marian's right, the boy's all kinds of stupid.
Guy is looking more interesting. He's got some kind of family Thing.
The Sheriff would have a point about the need for law, if and only if he were living by the law himself. But Guy actually appears to be. His justification for executing Robin without a trial has nothing to do with 24>1, it is about the new laws.
And Marian's little speech about going off to glory makes the stay at homes less cowardly by reflection. They aren't fighting a foreign war, but there's reasons for that aside from being afraid of dying.
And that holy land war bit... The more I think about it, the more it makes me kind of... Well, there's too much easy read ins there. We've got a foreign war, and some hero of the people standing up to say the rot is at home. Wonderful. Just what we need the BBC telling the little kidlets.
The characters are getting more rounded, there's things that spark my interest, but the plots are making me *facepalm*. It gets another week, but I'm far from a fan.
And also... What are they *wearing*? At one point Marian had the medaeval equivalent of a wonderbra on, some kind of furry thing that almost gave her cleavage even in the shapeless sack she had on under it. Its just... Half the clothes remind me of Blakes 7. Of all the things I like about B7, the wardrobe is not in fact one of them. Except on Servalan. And Avon sometimes. And some of the other outfits were kind of cool. Just... Okay, what I actually mean is, I've watched this show for two weeks, and there's nothing I'd actually want to wear as a costume. The sheriff had some nice fabrics going on, but on the whole, no.
Last, and this is a problem only at my end, I can't decide which settings to keep the TV on. The color especially makes rather a lot of difference. Gives it a totally different look. I can't decide if I want it turned up to some clothes violently orange or down to everything vaguely beige. I can't seem to find a middle set. Is irritating.
Guess I'll be irritated again next week then :-)
