beccaelizabethSo I'm reading this book. Central character, female, so far hasn't met anyone that doesn't like her (though she remembers a bunch of people that didn't once and is all insecure). Turning out to be the most perfectest natural talented whatsit the guild ever had.
Blah. MarySue. Bored now.
And also there is ick.
She's like an apprentice, just learning stuff. She has this casual sex type relationship with another apprentice.
The Guild Master just called her into his office, started off by calling her 'my dear girl', then got all touchy and holding her shoulders, then kissed her hand, then pulled her onto his lap and then there was kissing and then there was sex.
And I'm, like, totally creeped out here. Sexual harrassment! Misuse of authority! Totally frakking out of order! And she doesn't even know his first name!
But the text seems to think its romantic.
The entire relationship built over the course of two pages where she's trying to persuade him to let her do something that will make them both a bunch of money (or possibly kill her, depending). There was no relationship before. They didn't talk, they didn't share, they didn't get to know. He evaluated her performance some, but that's no basis for a romance. Quite the contrary.
And there was already a relationship! Which had talking and stuff! And yeah she hadn't been chasing it much, but that made her look the bitch, if anything. Doesn't make it nice to have plans with one guy and then shag the guild master.
Not. Romantic. At. All.

I hate re-reading old books. They're never the same. I just end up annoyed at them.
PS yes I should be asleep. yes I had too much chocolate today. yes these things are likely related.
