I'm watching the limited edition original trilogy :-)
Remastered disc. On my 32" TV. With the colour and brightness turned up. Okay, so the skin tones are a bit weird, and the makeup, but the skies and sand and robots all look very very cool.

... It probably says something about the movie that lack of skin tones is not, thus far (chapter 8), a problem.

Unfortunately all this about 'looks really cool' is only true for the version the box calls 'remastered'. The original theatrical version looks like hell even if I leave it letterboxed. I think I'll have to watch it on the computer, where I can safely make it real small.

However, Han fires first. I just want to say this as a philosophical position. Watching the shiny verson in no way compromises my feelings on this point.

"I haven't gone by the name of Obi-wan since, oh, before you were born."

... *restrains self from making any comments about the prequels not fitting*

"thought he should have stayed here" doesn't exactly fit with the thing where he was a slave. I'm just saying.

I wasn't paying attention to the prequels, but...

"Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough"
"Your father's light saber"
... did Obi Wan end the film owning that? Or did they just make him a total liar?

Not that he wasn't a lot of a liar already.

If the Empire rules by fear, why would they try and pretend it was Sand People killing Jawas?

Those skeletons really *Are* as gross and scary as I remember.
Cool.

This future uses injection needles... only on torture droids?

The Special Edition 'improvements', even the little things, are never any such thing. Also, they don't even match the prequels, like with all those animals running around. Which is very daft.

The bar is still cool. Pipes and dark and a whole lot of aliens. And I like the music.

*Han fired first*. It doesn't even look good! It looks utter crap! Why.... *teeth grinds, swallows preach to choir*

This bit with Jabba, same problem, looks like crap and doesn't fit the story and interrupts the flow to give us redundant information and... okay, nice butt shot of Han, and I love the gun belt. But aside from that no redeeming features.

Also, "Jabba, you're a wonderful human being" makes *no sense*

... Sorry, I know, I know, this is exactly why I bought the theatrical version. I should just watch that and be happy. I will, with the other discs, but for this one my sib is here and I can't fit us in front of the computer.

Okay, I decided I hate the special edition enough I purely cannot watch it, so we've switched to The Matrix.

Everything looks wrong on the revamped versions. Like, really really wrong. Annoys me very much.

... subtitles on The Matrix fall off the bottom of the screen if I set it to Zoom. The booklet says not to watch things letterbox because... I don't even know, something about the screen going Horribly Wrong. But is the only way to watch it with subtitles.
I've 'shrink'ed it on the DVD and moved it up so the subtitles are under the actual picture. I like that much better, but the booklet says not to do it. Annoyance.

Why does technology be such a pain?

That's the thing - Obi-Wan is EXTREMELY dishonest in this. He's fairly obviously trying to manipulate Luke in to helping. He's already lied about Vader 'killing' Anakin, why not embellish it a bit more? "When I first met him, your father was a whiny little snot who was a slave and I hated on sight." Yeah, not going to help ;)

Incidentally, yes, Obi-Wan did pick up Anakin's lightsaber in ROTS.

Past, actually. 'A long time ago', remember? ;)

YES, GODDAMMIT. AI.

Well, in the first time they filmed it, Jabba was a human in a hairy suit. Maybe Han's being snarky? "Jabba, you're a wonderful human being. And a shit Hutt."

Yeah XD Sorry. I... some changes I don't mind, admittedly, the only ones that really, REALLY bother me are the Han shot second thing and THAT FUCKING SCREAM in ESB, but the rest I don't mind. I like the change in music in Jedi XD (Don't watch the DVD editions. In that last scene, they remove Shaw and replace him with Christensen. I HATED that at first, until I saw ROTS and Anakin was more likable... *grumble*)

*giggles* Doesn't matter, the best of us do that XD

Yeah, those little differences trip you up... *sigh* The thing that gives me the shits the most that NEVER got fixed, even in the DVD edition, is that ARGH scene with the Rancor! Because it's blue-screened, all the blue lighting and shadows got bleached out of Luke's outfit, so he looks all flat and unrealistic!
