My bunny has matured into an outline.

... dude, any passing pshrink is really going to *wonder* about me ...

But I have an outline. Written down, in roughly chronological order, how to get from A to Z by way of all the intervening stages. I discovered and resolved a few problems, I decided on a twist and a red herring and some other plot furniture, I made decisions about characters and relationships and stuff, and I thought up some really gross scary bits. All the major food groups, so to speak.

There's at least three areas I'm not at all sure I can write, and that's not even counting the porn. If the porn is bad I at least have an excuse. If the family interactions are bad I have to fall back on the wrong-planet thing.

There's also language issues. Not so much the speaking Welsh thing. It's Ianto point of view, and since he knows what he's saying, he can just say it all in what I can read. Like with Giles speaking Latin, I'll just say it. Have Jack comment on how they're speaking half in Welsh and Ianto sort of blink and say he hardly notices when he's at home.

... I'm sure there's cultural issues to play with there, but I like the idea of communication issues and a kind of accidental secrecy and distance and intimacy and all that other stuff that gets tangled in with having a different language for family than work. It's like a whole new shiny toy. Just one I've got a vague feeling I'm likely using the wrong way up or something...

No, the language thing that is bothering me is: What's the local word for mum and dad?
Because sometimes it's mum and sometimes mom or ma, or dad or pops or da. And sometimes it's mater and pater, but not likely anywhere I'm going. And that's just in English I'm familiar with. Though, obviously, some of those isn't technically English words.
So what's Ianto likely to say?
Does it depend?

And I'm not even getting into grandparents. There's many of them too.

Does it matter that this story picks up from several stages after canon left off? I mean, I have a story or two to go in the gap, they just aren't eating my brain like this one is. But will anyone mind if I just go "Jack and Ianto are in a (mostly) happy relationship, let's get on with it then"?

I feel like I've already read a first time story for every occasion, and really I just want to get on with a great big twisty plot.

But I could go back a step and write the one where they get back together.
Which flashes back on when they get originally together.
Sort of a two birds approach, really.

So: Series start at the start? Or start with the story I've actually got on paper a bit?

My brain is fizzy and it's in a happy way!
I should just write all the time.
Homework isn't all that important.
