bunny with a baby
Feb. 2nd, 2007 04:50 amI thought I was doing quite well in the reading of academic things from the lit heap.
Then I realised it was five in the morning and I was up to page 23.
Also the vast majority of it I couldn't write a summary of if my life depended on it.
Bugger*2.
I got another plot bunny though. It went all detailed and angsty. Following on from the idea that Jack wouldn't sit back and mope if he came back late and Ianto was with someone else. My bunny has it that Ianto is married and with a new tiny baby. So it's not just Jack trying to see if there's room for him instead of just couples, it's Jack as step parent too. Though that step part always sounds weird because of dumb old stories where it's wicked stepmothers and such. But really, if Jack loves someone, and that someone has a baby, that's going to be a thing. And because I like him it will be the sort of thing where he's all wow about the new baby and loves them and it doesn't cross his mind that a lack of shared biology has anything to do with anything. But because fic needs conflict then the mother would maybe have an opinion on this, possibly of the what is he on sort. And then maybe Jack thinks he's part of the family, but she thinks he's just this weird hot guy who wants a threesome, and it's all a bit wonky.
And then Plot happens, and Jack arrives at the door with a speech as starts "I regret to inform you."
And then she throws him out, and Jack is sort of gobsmacked, because in his heart that's his baby too, but on paper he's nothing to do with her, and it's all Very Woeful.
And then Jack phones the Doctor because there's no one left on Earth who he can really talk to, and the Doctor magics it all better, because I've had enough Woeful for one night thanks.
And it turns out the kaboom wasn't really a kaboom or something, I don't know, maybe there can be left behind body parts and futuristic medecine and cybernetic replacement parts just to keep it nicely Torchwood angsty-dark. But anyways, Ianto is back, and then there's a whole different set of Issues where it turns out Ianto was rather under the impression Jack was family too and he has to sort it out with his wife, who is on the whole quite miffed with the whole thing.
And possibly the Doctor says something indiscreet and she finds out the guy she married isn't a quiet tourist office guy after all. Or possibly the new body parts require some explanation and it happens that way. And suddenly she goes from being a Rhys-type in the dark person to a newly informed and Bloody Pissed Off person, and there are Issues, and possibly Custody Battles with Paperwork.
But it all works out in the end, because then there's a snuggly family with a baby.
... yeah, usually I read textbook and then come on here to type what I've learned from it.
Sadly that *is* what I've learned from it.
... Bugger, bugger, bugger.
*sigh*
... maybe if I go to the college library a bit and read there.
... small problem with it being only middle of the nights I'm awake. meh.
... or I could just give up on academic and write fanfic. which plan has it's fans, but I'm sure there's flaws somewhere too...
