Norman Lear said that every sitcom is about a house and a family, although not necessarily a biological one--it could be a hospital or a police precinct, for example. By analogy, I think every drama show is about an Uber-Buffy: a group of people who add up to one fully integrated human being, although they have flaws and deficiencies as individuals--look at House, e.g. (Awww, I ran out of iconspace and took town my Jayne and House "separated at birth" icon.)
