I'm vaguely wondering why some people don't like Cyberwoman.

I suspect there's plenty of answers that will make me wish I hadn't asked, but since I liked it rather a lot, I'm sort of puzzled.

I have to agree, I rather liked it as well for the character portions and not for the sexed up outfit of Lisa as the Declassified seemed to glorify like she was made of gold.

It was nice to see GDL work his acting skills beyond snappy one-liners and on par background reactions to scenes where he doesn't even have dialogue (i always go back to his reaction to hearing 'well barbera just didn't fit' in 1-11 :D). I think it was [livejournal.com profile] crabby_lioness who did a commentary on the episode by compariing it to Oedipus Rex in the way the episode unfolded which is here. (http://crabby-lioness.livejournal.com/9713.html/)

On the other hand I remember being very disheartened by reading [livejournal.com profile] boji's review and they seemed to loathe it (coming to mind is them agreeing with Owen's rolling of his eyes when Ianto said he loved Lisa).

There are a lot of good things about this episode but I know some people were put off by the sudden reveal of so much emotion from Ianto as well as the almost humorously sexified cyber'girl'. I thought it was a great episode, alot of subtle dynamics between the characters that came to a head and rolled ala snowball on a hill out in other episodes.

Yes... it seems my two cents ended up being a couple bucks worth there, sorry ^^;;

The outfit? Stockings and suspenders? Pointy boobs?

The fact that no freaking way Jack wouldn't have known she was there. Ianto overacting.

Meh. But that's just me; YMMV.

The sexist & demeaning outfit on the woman. The implausibility of the setup. (An entire life support system hidden?) Criminally stupid behavior by Ianto, if indeed the Cyberman Menace(tm) was as bad as everyone seemed to think it. In fact, Ianto's behavior was so bad that I couldn't understand why the fans liked him afterward.

Owen is a little sleazy. Ianto endangered the life of all humans on Earth. In my mind, there's no comparison. Ianto should be out on his ear. Fired as untrustworthy.

Torchwood in general failed to click with me, so you're getting a casual viewer perspective here.

I liked it too! Guess it's just a taste thing.

And I think you've seen me rant about the Ianto-too-emo thing before, so I'll spare you. :-)

I admit that I wasn't a great fan of the Cyberwoman episode when I first saw it. I think a large part was the rather unusual appearance of Lisa. It was only when I watched it again - after reading some commentary on the episode - that I really began to appreciate it.

Oddly one thing which never bothered me was so-called emo!Ianto. Gareth did a good job of showing someone pushed far beyond his emotional boundaries, burned up by lies and betrayal. And that's also why I understand why Jack and the team gave Ianto another chance. Once they had his loyalty he will never let them down again, and there is nothing he won't do for those he loves. It makes him scary but it also makes him invaluable in the world that Torchwood works in.
