Publicising fic
Nov. 10th, 2004 10:51 pmOkay, now I've written my shiny little gem of brilliance (!) obviously I want to share it with the Whole WORLD!!!!! But, um, I don't want to be insane about it. So far, I've linked it from here and from
stay_and_gloat. It is prety much topicy on
giles_slash, being about Giles and at least partly slash. But I havent posted there yet. I'm getting the urge to not only do that but also go search interests until I find all the vaguely Gilesy vaguely fic related communities and Tell Them ALL!!!!!
Plus I'm on a lot of mailing lists. GilesSlash, HardRayne, RayneMakers, RipperRayne, UCSL all have interest in Giles, Ethan, and/or Giles/Ethan, so I could tell all of them all about it. Which in the case of some Ethan lists would be the first mail they've had all year. Huh. Useful. And yet story not very Ethany.
But the thing is, I don't know if I should go post everywhere. I mean I have no idea if there's a maximum number of lists you can be on topic on at once before it turns into spam. But I obviously want lots and lots of readers. So far yahoo says my story has had 21 page views, and about half a dozen of them were me checking it worked right. Which is whole plural numbers of reader, so yaaay, but I keep on reloading to see if there are more :eyeroll:
So the other reason I'm not sure how many places I should mention this is because I'm pretty much being insane about it as it is.
Anyways, thoughts?

The Ethan lists are utterly quiet.
I intend to post my G/E fic soonish.
BTW, if you need help with one of your WIPs... I am a little abrasive when I beta (too impatient to spend time on politeness formulas that ought to be spent on the text and on suggestions for improvement), but I'd gladly help you out. Let's start with something short, so we can see how we mesh.... :-)

Date: 2004-11-10 07:09 pm (UTC)If you want to cut down on the number of lists you're posting to, of the first three I'd post to GilesSlash (without the underscore) and skip the other two since it's got lots more members and seems to be somewhat more active.
A lot of people post to all of these. I usually post to GRB, Tweedy, ODD, and WG; my one slash fic I also posted to GilesSlash. Nobody has yet complained about list-spamming; people seem pretty tolerant in BtVS fandom.
Hope that helps... at least a little. :-)

Date: 2004-11-10 07:41 pm (UTC)Other than that, I wish I could help you, but I'm so lousy at self marketing I dno't even post my own fics anywhere, and only about 4 people get to see them. :(

Date: 2004-11-11 09:09 am (UTC)and decided to skip the other Ethan lists, because either they've had the exact same message, or they havent had anything since 2003.
Which is kind of sad. I mean, why isn't everyone noticing the magnificence, you know? :)
