Have now finished watching Tru Calling.
All of it.

No fair!

They'd just got everything set up and going *great*, they'd introduced all these great twists, the characters were clicking, and what happens?

TV *sucks*. The business of it. Makes no sense. *Sucks*

The show had the premise, the opposition, the emotional setup, the characters, scope for it to go in *so many* different directions... So of course it gets cancelled!

Dumbass suits.

Tru Calling
'The Last Good Day'

damn but they put a lot of work into making Jack sympathetic
you can so totally see his problem
trapped in a bad paradigm.

seperately, people being mean to Davis, no fair. For he is cute and cuddly, even if I wouldn't date him ever at all.

Have now finished watching Tru Calling up to the end of the first season.
Which was the episode that got me to buy the DVDs in the first place.

Only 6 episodes in season 2?
Grrr! Arrgh!
Network suits.

But. I kind of felt like they spent the whole first season setting up the basic premis. I mean, the early Tru only episodes were okay, apart from how annoying I found her then. But only once Jack started to play did they really totally grab me. Especially since Read more... )

In random comment: What is it with characters called Jack? Is there, like, a quota? Jack Harper in this, which incidentally turns up a whole bunch of characters on imdb. Jack Harkness on Doctor Who. Jacks everywhere.

In possibly more random though on topic comment: On the DVD menu right now Tru is posing on a morgue tray. Is it just me or is that, like, very creepy? I mean she isn't half naked or anything, but morgue and pretty are just not things I try and associate.

Been watching Tru Calling all day
first two discs.
Turns out she annoys me in early eps just as much as she did first time through.
Also, the one with the fake domestic violence pisses me off still.
But once it gets to the one where she thinks she is the suspect, aside from it being blindingly obvious who the real one is, I somehow stopped being so annoyed at her.
And it just had an episode that made me cry. Again, it was obvious from the outset how it was going to end, because the shape of the story was about how saving a life for a few hours has just as much point as saving it for years, but it was still damn depressing.

They get a little preachy, all in a row. There's the one with the fireman, where he asked for help but not because he was dead just because he hadn't saved the girl on the way. And there's the one with the guy that just wanted to say goodbye. And its all about Tru's issues, which is how they get an emotional through line even with all the mysteries being seperate. But all in a row at once, it gets kind of... Like, I've had enough of Tru's issues, and the consequent her being the center of the world. Like, there should be a time when its just about saving some lives, and not her moral advancement. Or otherwise its like the universe is laying it all on for her benefit, you know? Which is among the meta reasons I find the character annoying.

I decided to buy them around the time she found out there was an evil leaper, because then it got cool. Chess match, conscious opposition, alternate point of view. Like the guy honestly believes that the dead go on to a better place, and having that belief it looks kind of selfish to go around keeping them alive. Interesting.

I'm not a big fan of fate though. No fate but what you make. So I like seeing how everything collides and butterflies and then there is an ending. I wouldn't like it if someone decided 'fate' for a reason. Like 'Dead Like Me' kind of said that everyone has a time to die and if they miss it they rot. Ick. But that way up is fate, and annoying. Even though I liked a lot of aspects of that show. This way around is all about choice, and therefore yaay. But I worry.

Basically, death sucks, so watching her beat death every week has consistent pleasures.

But... also the contrariwise thing, where she gets a do-over but RL never does. That part kind of sucks.

ETA: 9th episode
Starts off with just the kind of random save I was thinking needed to happen
good timing.

But the best part:

Davis: I can't work on live people, they freak me out.

Explains *so much*.

He's just so cuddly. Also, his date question is if she's a Lord of the Rings fan.
Cute!

But beardy.

Also, I bet he smells funny. I don't know why I think that, but I do.

ETA2: 'The Longest Day': *ouch*
I mean, I can see it, see those choices and that working. Though I hate the 'fate' word I guess I can work around it and assume that Tru isn't the only one gets foreknowledge and a choice.
But that ending? *ouch*
