(no subject)
Oct. 24th, 2007 07:49 pmI was very tired so I went to sleep.
Then I woke up again.
I was apparently dreaming a discussion about how sexuality is a constructed discourse, with reference to Star Trek, specifically Kirk.
... some dreams take more explaining than others ...
So anyway, I woke up with a determination to write up that Cultural Theory glossary I've been meaning to do. Signifier, signified, sign, paradigm, syntagm, argument/rhetoric, montage, narrative, interpellation, subject position, identification, hegemony, incorporation, articulation. dominant resistant opposition. And all those specific film words that I'd have to look up again, mise en scene and editing and cinematography and all that. I've got good notes, I just don't seem to have it all on one handy sheet.
I did a lovely bubble diagram for last year's words. By the end of the year I'd learned what they all mean. I think quite a few wore off by now, but I know precisely where to look them up again.
There's a glossary page on Blackboard but it has nothing on it. There's also a wiki. And you can make your own homepage. Lots of neat stuff that nobody uses, bit frustrating.
Also if I get it done and post it then I can email the rest of the class with another handy Blackboard tool and they can look at it and maybe spend less time in class asking what them words mean. Only first I better email the teacher and check I've got the meanings right :-)
I like my degree subject. Yaays!
... now I just need to find people to talk with who also think it's just fascinating about the centrality of FilmFour to British cinema in the 80s, or who might get the funny when I have that idea about interpellation and vampire thrall ...
